the essential It is a place with many faces. The Aérochrome in Blagnac is both an exhibition space and a transmission space. Here the artists reside and teach urban arts for all.
“Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed”. This famous quote from Lavoisier suits the artist Miadana perfectly. In her small workshop of around ten square meters, this blunderer doesn’t throw anything away. Here, the smallest element constitutes a canvas. Even his empty aerosol cans end up as decoration. “Here, we try to recycle everything. It’s part of our values,” admits Miadana.
She shares this philosophy with the other artists who reside in this place: the Aerochrome. The building is no exception to the rule either. He too has a second life. This space of several hundred square meters which previously housed a factory was completely transformed by the Blagnac town hall a few years ago to make it a new cultural place. “It’s a place that is at the same time an urban art school, an exhibition hall and an artist incubator,” explains Clémentine Gautry, Aérochrome project manager.
Graffiti artists and designers
This temple of Haut-Garonne street art was inaugurated in February 2020. In just a few years, it has become a real landmark. In summer, a small bar is set up for evenings with companies or friends. During the week, schools from the town or city come to work on visual arts. Several graffiti artists and designers also occupy the premises. “We organize between three and four exhibitions per year. The last one, for example, is centered on the theme of LatinoGraff. It’s an exchange between several artists of different nationalities,” says Clémentine Gautry.
What makes the place special is that the artists also strive to convey it.
“Yes, it is above all a question of sharing our values. Here everyone can learn. Whether it is a child or a person over 80 years old,” supports Clémentine Gautry. Workshops are offered for schools and adults. It is the artists, whose works are exhibited, who teach the apprentice graffiti artists.
