Russian authorities say 25 people have been killed in an attack on a market in Donetsk. Donetsk is the capital of the province of the same name in Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine.
Both the territory’s Russian-appointed leader, Denis Pushilin, and the Russian-appointed mayor, Alexei Kulemzin, say Ukraine has shelled the market. That claim has not yet been independently verified and Ukraine has not yet responded.
Twenty people were also reportedly injured in the attack. On images from news agency Reuters several bodies with obvious injuries can be seen.
According to Pushilin, emergency services are on the scene and specialists are trying to collect fragments of the ordnance used.
The attack took place about 20 kilometers from the front line. The market was busy, partly because it is Sunday.
