Donald Trump Surrounded by South Carolina Leaders in Show of Strength Ahead of New Hampshire Primary

MANCHESTER, Nueva Hampshire, USA. —

Donald Trump surrounded himself with leaders from Nikki Haley’s home state on Saturday in a show of strength ahead of the New Hampshire primary scheduled for Tuesday.

Trump was joined at a rally at Manchester’s NHU Arena on Saturday night by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, the state’s lieutenant governor and a host of other top officials, including the attorney general, treasurer and speaker of the state House of Representatives. The state officials, along with U.S. Congressmen Joe Wilson, William Timmons and Russell Fry, shared the stage with Trump.

“Almost every politician in South Carolina has my back,” Trump declared.

South Carolinians urged voters to carry Trump to victory in New Hampshire before the primary moves to their state and its decisive early contest is scheduled for next month.

“If you do that and win by a wide margin here, we will finish the job in South Carolina,” said Murrell Smith, speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives.

The rally represented another blow by South Carolina against Haley, who hopes her appeal among independent and unaffiliated voters will propel her to a strong enough finish in New Hampshire to turn the race into a head-to-head showdown against Trump.

On Friday, the former president and Republican Party favorite received the endorsement of South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who joined him at a rally in Concord. Scott abandoned his own bid for the Republican nomination in November. A dozen years ago, Haley, then serving as governor of her state, elevated Scott from the House of Representatives by naming him a senator, making him one of the most prominent black Republicans in the country.
