The beginning of the year surprised Colombians, since barely a week had passed in 2024, when the National Institute of Health announced that the new variant of covid, named JN.1, was already circulating in the country.
Immediately, and upon confirmation that it is a strain that is characterized by its rapid spread, Colombians began to dust off their vaccination cards. In fact, already in medical offices, where patients are arriving in bulk, affected by the peak of respiratory infections, people are beginning to ask about the number of covid vaccines that the person has.
Well, in Bogotá the review of the aforementioned covid vaccine cards will have to begin again, since 82,440 doses of the biological produced in China (Sinovac) arrived in the country’s capital, which is one of the citizens’ favorites, well, yes the virus left that nation, they were also the experts on how to combat it.
Thus, the Ministry of Health of the Capital District announced that it is resuming vaccination against covid-19, after receiving Sinovac vaccines.
Priorities
According to the information provided by the Ministry of Health, the priority will be for the population over 3 years of age and the availability of the doses will begin on Monday, January 22, at the vaccination points in the country’s capital.
The goal in Bogotá is to continue with immunization against covid-19. “In Bogotá, these biologicals will be used for children aged 3 years and older; adolescents and adults who meet certain priority conditions,” argued the district entity.
If you are in these groups, come get vaccinated
Taking into account that it is a limited number of vaccines that arrived from China, the Bogotá Health Secretariat established the groups that will be able to receive the doses.
1. People who have not received any doses and want to start their regimen against the virus.
2. Population that wishes to receive its second dose and that has started its regimen against covid-19 with the biological Sinovac.
3. People over 18 years of age who have two first doses of vaccine from the Sinovac laboratory and who wish to receive their first booster with this biological.
In 20 locations
The doses of Sinovac vaccine will be available at all vaccination points enabled in the 20 locations of the city, confirmed the Ministry of Health, an entity that sent a specific message to citizens: “it is important that citizens take into account that, When applying the biological agent to boys and girls over 3 years of age, the completion of informed consent by their father, mother or caregiver is required.”
In this way, the invitation is for fathers and mothers to not let their guard down with covid; mainly, now that the country is preparing to return to school, a scenario that is conducive to the spread of respiratory diseases.
With vaccination, meanwhile, serious effects of the disease are avoided, whose new variant is easily contagious.

The Ministry of Health also announced that 23,000 doses of the influenza vaccine are available, which also provides protection amid the peak of respiratory diseases.
