Remote Work and Travel in Asia: Cost, Weather, and Practical Tips

I decided to spend the previous winter in Asia, working remotely from various exotic countries, while getting to know different cultures, natural wonders and, within reason, also culinary things. In total, my spouse and I spent exactly six months on the other side of the world. Previously, in four articles I described life and remote work from northern Thailand, Vietnam, Bali in Indonesia and southern Thailand. But in this article I will focus on practical matters. How much money did we spend per month on average? Where is it cheaper to live? Where is it warmer and sunnier? What are the possible obstacles to going to live and work remotely in an exotic location for several months? I will try to answer all questions.

Part 1: Northern Thailand

Part 2: The harshness and openness of Vietnam

Part 3: Bali, Indonesia, popular with tourists and digital nomads

Part 4: The Thai island that’s hard to get wrong

Maybe someone will think that you can’t and shouldn’t compare different countries. There is some truth to it, but each place has its own quirks or “economic trends” that can be noticed. Especially if relatively equal time has been spent in each of them and there are still fresh impressions.

The practical information and comparison below will probably be more useful for couples or solo travelers who are ready to break into the Asian vortex and find it difficult to sit by the sea or in the accommodation area for more than about 2 days. If you are a family with one or more children, the costs, accommodation and maybe even destination choices will be completely different.
