ÖBB orders the new units in three versions.
The Austrian Federal Railways took another step towards major modernization of trains mainly for regional and long-distance transport. The first 70 Siemens Mireo units from the framework contract signed last year for up to 540 trains have been bindingly ordered by Siemens Mobility.
The first order includes three versions of the Mireo units: 11 three-car units with a length of 73 meters and 28 four-car units with a length of 106 meters for regional transport and 31 three-car units for long-distance transport. All units will be equipped with ETCS. The value of the order is over 800 million euros.

“We continue to modernize our fleet. The new trains with a speed of up to 160 km/h will offer increased passenger comfort, barrier-free access, the possibility of transporting bicycles or an Internet connection. Particular emphasis is placed on lower energy consumption in the units.” said ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä.
Austrian Railways continues a major rollout upgrade, recently introducing Siemens Desiro ML units for Tyrol. The largest share of new orders has long been held by Siemens, which supplied not only railJet sets, but also CityJet units. Recently, Stadler also started scoring points in Austria: it will supply battery units and double-decker units for long-distance transport.
