With enthusiasm and desire to resume her daily activities with complete confidence, the 98-year-old Pensión 65 user, Margarita Baygorrea de Sulca, received the monovalent vaccine against Covid-19, thus beginning the new immunization campaign led by the Ministry of Health. (Minsa) with support from the social program of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), against the omicron variant and other lineages of the original strain.
Samuel Sulca, one of Margarita’s 8 children, thanked Pensión 65 for coordinating with the Diris Lima Este of the Minsa so that older adults complete their vaccination schedule. After her mother received the last dose from her, she hugged her and remembered when she worked on a farm in Los Morochucos (Ayacucho) planting potatoes, sweet potatoes, olluquito and oca, to support her entire family.
“My mother is a strong and feisty woman. Now, thanks to the vaccine, she will be able to resume her activities with greater safety and confidence, because she likes to accompany us to the market and talk with her landladies and neighbors, and enjoy family outings, because she has more than 15 grandchildren,” he added. she.
The Diris Lima Este brigade arrived at Margarita’s property, located on Aymaras Street in the Santa Anita district, where they explained to her the importance of being protected against the coronavirus.
The home visit included the participation of the executive director of Pensión 65, Julio Mendigure; the director of Diris Lima Este, Carlos León Gomez; and the mayor of Santa Anita, Olimpio Alegría.
“Midis is working with Minsa and local governments to vaccinate older adults. With our 98-year-old user Margarita we started the monovalent dose campaign. Throughout Peru we have 1,500 users who are over 100 years old and to take care of them, I invite them to go to the vaccination centers and receive the brigades that will go to their homes, so that they are protected,” declared Mendigure Fernández.
For his part, the director of Diris Lima Este, Carlos León, asked the population to complete their vaccination schedule. “The monovalent dose is completely safe. Older adults are our priority and that is why we will continue with the articulated work with Pensión 65 and the municipalities, as we have done with Santa Anita,” he added.
The mayor of Santa Anita, Olimpio Alegría, highlighted that in his district visits to older adults will be intensified so that they receive the missing doses. “We have the elderly as our axis. We are joining forces with Pensión 65 and the Minsa, through Diris, so that no one is left without their vaccine,” he concluded.
