Protesters in Romania stopped the blockade of Ukrainian trucks through the Halmeu-Diakovo border crossing, thereby ending the blockade of the state border. This was announced by the State Border Service of Ukraine.
“Today around 1:20 p.m. local time, representatives of the Romanian border police notified that the blockade of truck traffic in the direction of the Halmeu border crossing has been lifted,” said a message on the agency’s Telegram channel. It is noted that the border crossing is carried out as usual.

The specified point was blocked on January 18. Earlier, Romanian protesters unblocked the movement of Ukrainian trucks through two other points, namely Porubnoe – Siret and Krasnoilsk – Vikovo de Sus.
Romanian truck drivers and farmers, blocking the traffic of Ukrainian trucks through the state border checkpoints, protested against the increase in the price of compulsory vehicle insurance, the increase in excise duties on fuels and tariffs for travel on toll roads, as well as prolonged checks at the borders of the country due to a large number of Ukrainian trucks.
Romania is not the first EU country where protesters have blocked the movement of trucks across the border with Ukraine. On November 6 last year, Polish transporters started a protest by blocking three main checkpoints on the border with Ukraine: Yagodin – Dorogusk, Krakovets – Korchevaya and Rava-Ruskaya – Grebennoe.
On November 23, a fourth was added to them – “Medica – Shegini”, but on January 6, 2024, the protest at this point was terminated. The Poles demanded the removal of the privileges granted by the European Union to truck drivers from Ukraine after February 24, 2022. Truck drivers were forced to wait for days to cross the border, since the beginning of the blockade three Ukrainian drivers died in queues. Colleagues from Hungary and Slovakia periodically joined the action of the Polish carriers.
On January 15, 2024, Polish Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak announced the signing of an agreement with carriers to end the blockade of the border crossing points with Ukraine by March 1. A day later, the Ukrainian State Border Service announced that the crossing of the last checkpoint was unblocked and the operation was over. At the same time, the organizers of the protests threatened to resume the blockade if the Polish government did not fulfill its obligations.
