Michael grew up with his sister Thai Chin, who also followed in the footsteps of his famous father, became an actress and has even played a James Bond girl.
Thanks to his mother, who was Catholic, Chow got the name Michael. His mother came from a rich family that made a living from tea plantations for decades.
At the age of 12, Michael was sent to a boarding school in London, never seeing or speaking to his father again since he left.
Already in the first days in England, he realized that China is not highly valued in Europe, and then the goal arose – to make Chinese culture fruitful in the eyes of the world.
After high school, Chow studied at St. Martin’s School of Art and after a year combined his art studies with Hammersmith School of Construction and Architecture.

His acting career developed rapidly and artistic expressions also began to gain momentum. The artist’s exhibitions were shown in several London galleries, including the Institute of Contemporary Art.
Chow soon opened a Chinese restaurant with business partners, where the waiters were Italians, but the dishes were easy for English people to understand. The cooks were Chinese from Shanghai. The restaurant quickly gained popularity and more restaurants were opened with the same name – “Mr. Chow”.
Michael wanted to bring Chinese culture to the wider world, so he went to New York and opened restaurants in Las Vegas, Miami, New York and Beverly Hills. “Mr. Chow” was a favorite among celebrities, many contemporaries called it “everyone’s safety island”.
From an early age, Chow was a collector of furniture and contemporary art. He was especially attracted by the collection of portraits of world-famous artists.
Since the 1960s, he has developed several architectural projects, extraordinary houses built for all his restaurants, Giorgio Armani stores in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, as well as his own home in Los Angeles.
