For the second time in a short time, a room in Putten has been defaced with an anti-Israel slogan.
Yesterday, shortly before a condolence was to begin, the slogan ‘Fuck Israel’ was found in front of the door of the Nieuwe Kerk in Putten, reports Omroep Gelderland. It is unclear who is responsible for the graffiti.
On New Year’s Eve 2023, the Memorial space in memory of the Razzia defaced, then with a green Star of David and the date October 7, 2023. That was a direct reference to the day that Hamas committed a large-scale terror attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people.
In both cases it is unclear who is behind the graffiti.
Men taken away
On October 1, 1944, the German occupiers deported a large part of the male working population of Putten as a reprisal for an armed action by the resistance. 659 men were taken, 552 of them were killed in concentration camps.
After the defacement of the Memorial Room, Gert van Dompseler of the Oktober 44 Foundation spoke about a sad action. “I don’t understand the connection with our space,” he said at the time. “That’s about the raid and that has nothing to do with it.”
