It was a building in the Mazzeh district of Damascus that was hit on Saturday morning, according to an update from the state news agency Sana. State Syrian media reports that an apartment block has been hit.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) claims that Israel is behind the attack, in which at least five are said to have been killed.
“An Israeli rocket attack targeting a four-story building killed five people and destroyed the entire building where Iran-loyal advisers were meeting,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said in a statement.
According to Reuters, four members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard are to be among those killed. One of these must be a senior figure in the information unit. Reuters writes that the building was used by Iranian advisers to the Syrian authorities.
Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes against Syria since the civil war broke out there in 2011, primarily targeting Iran-backed Lebanese Hezbollah forces and Syrian army positions.
Israel rarely comments on individual attacks in Syria.
