I will choose to be honest with myself. And I will remain Sonya Morozyuk,” said she. “During the period of our relationship, I received two gifts from Roman – a ring and a necklace. Grinkevich did Morozyuk’s proposal in October 2023 in Venice (Italy). According to Morozyuk, at that time they had been in a relationship for three months.
The coincidence in time of the message of suspicion to the father of Morozyuk’s groom and her statement of separation became the reason for active discussion on social networks. The online publication GORDON has collected the most striking reactions of Ukrainians to the statement of the artist, who, in the early days of the corruption scandal surrounding the Grinkevich family, claimed that she was not interested in her fiancé’s business and denied her possible involvement in money laundering.
One of the first to react to Morozyuk’s statement about breaking up with her fiancé was Ukrainian blogger Alexey Durnev.

On December 29, 2023, information appeared on the website of the State Bureau of Investigation about the detention of a Lviv businessman, one of the largest suppliers to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, who offered $500 thousand to one of the leaders of the Main Investigation Department of the State Bureau of Investigation. The bribe was offered for assistance in the return of property seized from companies under his control during a criminal investigation.
“Several months ago, the Bureau initiated criminal proceedings into transactions involving the purchase of clothing and linen for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Lviv businessman’s companies won 23 tenders for the supply of clothing to the Ministry of Defense for more than UAH 1.5 billion,” the report says. “During the investigation, it was established , that enterprises controlled by the businessman that were previously engaged in construction and did not have adequate production, warehouse and other facilities for the manufacture and storage of clothing for the needs of the Ministry of Defense were involved in the implementation of defense orders. This led to damage to the budget, according to preliminary estimates, by 1.2 billion UAH and disruption of supplies.”

After this, Ukrainian journalist Yevgeny Plinsky stated that the son of Igor Grinkevich, Roman Grinkevich, “stupidly invested money earned from corrupt contracts of the Ministry of Defense into his fiancee, Ukrainian artist Sonya Morozyuk.”
After the online scandal, Morozyuk did not comment on what was happening for a week, closing her Instagram page. After a while, she stated that she had known Roman Grinkevich for only five months. According to the artist, she was not interested in her fiancé’s business. Morozyuk noted that “if the accusations against Roman that public funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine were stolen turn out to be true,” then she will no longer be able to be together with him.
“I am accused of “money laundering”. What money? Where are these billions, where are these bank transfers that should go through my accounts? I have no accounts abroad, hidden wealth, nothing. To put my name next to the “withdrawn billion” – this is just a lie. I have nothing to do with Roman’s condition, because we are not spouses,” she concluded.
On January 9, the Ministry of Education announced the termination of contracts with Grinkevich’s companies. On January 11, the SBI announced the seizure of the property of Grinkevich’s family and controlled companies.
On January 17, the State Bureau of Investigation reported new suspicions to Igor Grinkevich, directors of enterprises and a company representative (five defendants in total). They are suspected of causing almost UAH 1 billion in damage to the state budget of Ukraine. The suspicion concerns fraud in the purchase of clothing and linen for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Grinkevich and his accomplices were suspected of creating and participating in a criminal organization and of taking over someone else’s property through abuse of trust (fraud), committed under martial law on an especially large scale by a criminal organization. All the defendants have been detained and the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided. At the time of the announcement of the suspicion, Grinkevich was in a pre-trial detention center.
