Abidjan (dpa). Football star Mohamed Salah from Liverpool FC has suffered a strained thigh and will miss Egypt for two games at the Africa Cup of Nations. This was announced by his association. Against Cape Verde and in a possible round of 16 at the tournament in Ivory Coast, Egypt will have to plan without its best player.
Salah had been substituted the day before in the 2-2 draw against Ghana in stoppage time in the first half. The Frankfurt Bundesliga professional Omar Marmoush (69th) and Mostafa Mohamed (74th) saved Egypt a point after Mohammed Kudus (45th + 3 and 71st) had put Ghana in the lead twice.
Egypt only has two points after two games at the finals in Ivory Coast and has to worry about progressing in Group B. The duel with Cape Verde on Monday is the last game in the group phase. In the 2-2 draw against Mozambique, Salah prevented an opening defeat with a foul penalty in stoppage time.
