Mataram (ANTARA) – The West Nusa Tenggara Health Service urges the public to be aware of dengue hemorrhagic fever following erratic weather changes.
“The weather changes from hot to rainy until we are alert to dengue fever,” said Head of the NTB Health Service, Dr Lalu Hamzi Fikri in Mataram, Friday.
If you look at the trend of cases in the period 2009 to 2023, dengue cases in NTB are always fluctuating. The highest trend of cases only occurred in 2020.
“At the end of December 2023, we had 3,447 cases and this is indeed lower than in 2020, but we need to increase this vigilance, especially in the aspect of clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS),” he said.

In addition to PHBS, said Hamzi, what also needs to be improved is keeping the environment clean.
“And the most important thing is how we maintain physical health,” he said.
Hamzi added that the physical connection is how to maintain immunity, because when the weather changes from hot to cold the risk of contracting bacteria is higher.
“Our body needs to work extra with its immune system. That’s why we need to increase vigilance, because if we are not vigilant against dengue fever, it is dangerous,” said Hamzi.
Furthermore, the former Director of NTB General Hospital asked the public to recognize the characteristics of dengue fever.
“If you see symptoms of fever continuing and then red spots, a nosebleed appears, the most fatal of which is dengue shock syndrome, there is a lack of fluids there and there can be a decrease in consciousness and death can occur,” said Hamzi.*
