Ghanaian and Lesotho-born director Ayo Tsalithaba said he would withdraw his film “Atmospheric Arrivals” from the Berlinale Forum Expanded and would not take part in the festival. He is horrified at how artists are censored by cultural institutions and the government – especially in Germany.

Tsalithaba says she supports a boycott call called “Strike Germany”, which is aimed at international cultural workers. The background is the German stance in the Middle East conflict. Among other things, there are calls for a boycott of events organized by German cultural institutions. The French Nobel Prize winner for literature Annie Ernaux is also one of the supporters.
