Ukrainian Ministry of Defense conducts unscheduled checks on military warehouses due to complaints about food quality

“Deputy Minister of Defense Colonel Vitaly Polovenko, together with member of the Anti-Corruption Council Gennady Krivosheya, unscheduledly checked the warehouses of some military units in the east of the country,” the report says.

Reason for checks

The reason was complaints from the military about the quality of food. During the inspection, it turned out that the products were delivered late and their quality did not meet the standards.

“We are responding to complaints from the military, so we came on an unplanned “visit” to the unit. We are recording everything. It turned out that due to the untimely supply of food products by the winning company, food supplies in certain areas are insufficient,” Polovenko said.

Interesting detail

Now the Ministry of Defense has working groups checking the quality and timely delivery of products. It is known that the supplier company won 10 lots for food and now ensuring the supply of products for all of them has turned out to be a difficult issue.

“This issue is under strict control. The company won 10 lots for food, but now it physically cannot cope with the supplies,” added the Deputy Minister of Defense.

May replace supplier

According to the terms of the contract, the Ministry of Defense can replace the supplier in such a case.

“That is, the parts where the company does not keep up with supplies, we withdraw from the contract and reassign them to winning companies in adjacent areas. The products must be of high quality, and their supply must be continuous,” concluded Vitaly Polovenko.

For all recorded violations, appropriate reports will be drawn up. For non-compliance with the terms of the contract, the Ministry of Defense will impose penalties on the company that delivered the products late. In addition, the company must also reimburse funds for spoiled and low-quality food products.

Checks in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

On January 19, Deputy Minister of Defense Natalya Kalmykova, together with representatives of the Command of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Leleka Foundation/BF Stork of Ukraine team, inspected the composition of medical equipment. In particular, the condition and availability of first aid kits were assessed.

Let us recall that at the beginning of last year, the media published an investigation in which it was stated that the Ministry of Defense allegedly purchased food for military personnel at prices two to three times higher compared to prices in Kyiv stores. The media outlet that published the corresponding investigation claimed to have a copy of the relevant agreement for the purchase of food worth 13 billion hryvnia.
