Brazil’s Comptroller General Finds Former President Bolsonaro’s Vaccination Records to be False Following Investigation

Brazil’s Comptroller General announced Thursday that former President Jair Bolsonaro’s vaccination records are false, following an investigation into alleged manipulation of information on his COVID-19 card.

Despite the former president’s public opposition to the vaccine, records showed that he received a dose at a health center in São Paulo in July 2021. However, the investigation concluded that the former president had left the city the day before. and did not return to Brasilia until three days later.

The nurse identified in the records as the one who administered the vaccine denied having done so and no longer worked at the health center. In addition, the registered batch of vaccines was not available on that date, according to the Comptroller General’s Office.

It was also discovered that records of two other vaccine doses administered to Bolsonaro were deleted even before investigations began, confirming that they were also false.

Last May, federal police raided Bolsonaro’s home in Brasilia as part of the vaccine investigation, arresting some of his aides and confiscating his mobile phone. Bolsonaro previously denied knowing or ordering the introduction of false information into his vaccination records.

During his tenure, he repeatedly downplayed immunization and social distancing measures during the pandemic, stating on several occasions that he had not been vaccinated and would not do so.

He also questioned the effectiveness of vaccines and spread fears about possible side effects, even falsely associating the vaccine with the development of AIDS. Bolsonaro contracted COVID-19 in July 2020, almost a year before his first vaccination was recorded.
