10-Year-Old Girl Raped in East Harlem by Man She Met on Social Media App, NYPD Reports

A 10-year-old girl was raped in East Harlem (Manhattan) by a man she met on a social media application, the New York police reported yesterday.

After first communicating through an app, they made an appointment and the young victim met her attacker at 3rd Ave. and E. 122nd St. around 9 p.m. on January 6, according to NYPD.

The adult took the girl to an apartment and raped her. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. The attacker fled and is being searched, reported Daily News.

The social network they used to communicate has not been specified nor is it clear how the minor was alone on the street late at night. Police have released surveillance images of the suspect, captured inside a grocery store, and are asking the public for help in identifying and locating him.

In a similar case, in December a former worker at a state residential facility for teenage girls on Long Island (NY) admitted to raping one of them several times after giving her marijuana edibles.

NYPD Officer Christopher Terranova has also been charged with child abuse and possession of child pornography, and also faces federal charges that include allegations that he met some of his victims while on the job.
