Flu Vaccination Campaign in Castilla-La Mancha Rises 8 Points in Two Weeks

The flu vaccination campaign has risen 8 points in the last two weeks in Castilla-La Mancha. On January 3, the vaccination rate stood at 51% and today it stands at 59% of the Castilla-La Mancha population.

The data has been provided by the spokesperson for the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, Esther Padilla, who has encouraged the entire population to get vaccinated against the flu and remembers that the vaccination campaign has been open to all citizens since January 3 .

Thus, it has indicated that on that date, when vaccination was prescribed only for the vulnerable population, the flu vaccine coverage rate was 51%, that is, figures similar to the pre-pandemic years, but since January 3 it has risen 8 points, to 59%.

Padilla points out that the COVID vaccination rate, which is still recommended only for the vulnerable population, is 51%.

Regarding the number of cases, and since Castilla-La Mancha is the autonomous community with the highest prevalence of flu with 1,532 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, Padilla points out that the evolution is “at a plateau” and estimates that the Infections will begin to decrease from the third or fourth week of January.

“There has been greater healthcare pressure, but we have been prepared”

In any case, Padilla defends that although there has been a greater influx of patients to health centers and hospital emergencies, the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service has responded to the situation, thanks for example to the implementation of the contingency plans in hospitals, which is why he asserts: “There has been greater pressure on care, but we have been prepared.”

In this way, he denies that there has been a lack of foresight, as both the health personnel unions and the opposition accuse them, and also adds that the peak of flu cases “has come ahead throughout Spain” to the time when it usually occurs. occur and, furthermore, it has coincided with the Christmas holidays.

All of this, together with the circulation of various types of flu and COVID, has meant that “there has been a greater influx of patients to health centers and hospitals,” and indicates that the busiest day was December 26, when The emergencies of the public hospitals of Castilla-La Mancha treated 4,000 people.

But he denies that there has been a lack of personnel and also adds that 200 professionals were hired on an extraordinary basis at the Toledo Hospital since December 15.

In this sense, he considers that “the alarm cannot be raised” when more patients than usual attend health centers because they have contracted a disease and it is said that “they are not being cared for.”

“It is true that sometimes more people go and other times less people go, but I do not believe that there has been a problem of lack of attention in any case to the patients of the region,” says the spokesperson advisor.
