MAGETAN, KOMPAS.com – Presidential candidate number 3 Ganjar Pranowo advised ministers and public officials participating in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) to resign from their positions.
This suggestion, said Ganjar, was also addressed to his running mate, Mahfud MD, who currently serves as Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam).
Apart from Mahfud, the public officials who are contesting in the 2024 presidential election are Deputy Speaker of the DPR and General Chair of PKB Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of Defense and General Chair of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto, and Mayor of Solo Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Ganjar said this after being asked about the attitude of the Solo DPRD PDI-P faction which asked Gibran to resign as mayor because he often took time off to campaign.

“If it’s good to resign, all of them are public officials. Including maybe if we’re talking about Mas Gibran, yes, Mr Mahfud too, Cak Imin too, Mr Prabowo too,” said Ganjar when met in Magetan, East Java, Friday (19/1/2024) after meeting egg chicken farmers.
According to him, for the 2024 election, only he and presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan do not have any public positions.
It is known that Ganjar and Anies have finished their terms as Governor of Central Java in 2023 and Governor of DKI Jakarta, 2022.
“I’m the only one with Mas Anies who is not currently in office,” he added.
Even so, Ganjar reminded that the current regulations do not require public officials who take part in national political contestations to resign from their positions.

The consequences of this regulation, according to him, must be accepted by society. Including, if during the nomination process, the figure is suspected of abusing the power of his position, because he does not resign.
“There is potential for abuse of authority, and then they won’t focus on their work. (In fact) if they resign, it’s over,” said the former Governor of Central Java.
Previously it was reported that the PDI-P faction of the Solo DPRD proposed that the Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, step down from his position.
This was conveyed by the Chairman of the PDI-P Fraction of the Solo City DPRD, YF Sukasno following Gibran’s frequent requests for leave for campaign purposes as vice presidential candidate.
“So our faction and several administrators carried out studies on several aspects. (Gibran’s) frequent leave makes the government ineffective and inefficient,” he said, Tuesday (16/1/2024).
Most recently this week, Gibran has gone on leave for 3 days from Monday (15/1/2024) to Wednesday (17/1/2024) to carry out a campaign in the DKI Jakarta area. And previously, I also often took leave.
