Australia qualify from the group phase 2023 Asian Cup. Passing was confirmed after giving in Syria 1-0 through a goal from Jackson Irvine.
The Syria vs Australia match took place at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Thursday (18/1/2024) evening WIB. Australia tried to take the initiative after the kickoff, but Syria threatened first.
Pablo Sabbag’s kick in the fifth minute hit the goal post. Australia’s responses from Jackson Irvine and Harry Souttar in the 9th and 11th minutes were still wide.
Australia had difficulty creating a direct threat to Syria’s goal. Meanwhile, Syria actually created opportunities from Ammar Ramadan and Sabbag at the end of the first half, which only narrowly missed the goal.
GOAL! Australia broke the deadlock in the 59th minute. A stab from the right sparked chaos and the ball failed to be cleared properly by the Syrian defense. Irvine poked a wild ball into the goal.
Syria is trying to catch up. Mouaiad Al Ajaan’s attempt was still stopped by the goalkeeper. Then Ezequiel Ham’s effort from a tight angle just shot over the goal.
The score does not change until the match is over. With this victory, Australia qualified for the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup.
Their score can practically only be surpassed/equalled by one from Uzbekistan or India. Uzbekistan has only collected one point, as has Syria, and India has not yet got a point.
