Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Attorney General’s Office has named a property businessman from Surabaya, Budi Said, as a suspect in the PT Aneka Tambang (ANTM) Tbk gold buying and selling fraud case. This determination was conveyed by the Director of Investigations at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes at the Attorney General’s Office, Kuntadi, in a press statement at his office, Thursday (18/1/2024).
Kuntadi explained that this case began with a series of events from March 2018 to November 2018. Budi Said and a number of people were involved in the case.
“It is suspected that the suspect together with brothers EA, EP, AP, EK, and MD, some of whom are PT Antam employees, have carried out an evil conspiracy to manipulate gold buying and selling transactions by setting the selling price below the price set by PT Antam “under the pretext that there was a discount from PT Antam. Even though at that time PT Antam did not apply the discount,” said Kuntadi.
In order to cover up these transactions, he said, the perpetrators used transaction patterns outside the mechanism established by PT Antam. So PT Antam cannot control the entry and exit of precious metals and the amount of money transacted.
“As a result, there is a quite large difference between the amount of money given by the suspect and the precious metals handed over by PT Antam,” said Kuntadi.
As a result of this discrepancy, he explained, in order to cover up the discrepancy, the perpetrators then wrote a letter which was suspected to be fake. In the letter, it basically stated that it was true that the transaction had been carried out and that it was true that PT Antam had a statement regarding the delivery of a number of precious metals.
“As a result, Antam suffered a loss of 1 ton 136 kg of precious metal or perhaps the equivalent of IDR 1.1 trillion,” said Kuntadi.
