Lonely bays, construction boom, thunderous nightlife: Ireland is good with extremes. Life is slowed down in small coastal villages, Dublin is growing restlessly! When the country joined the EU in 1973, it was desperately poor. Today it has one of the highest per capita incomes. Ireland has taken advantage of its European opportunities and the subsidies have laid the foundation for an economic boom. And the country has remained so pristine, so green and so “Irish” that it remains the eternal dream destination of many Germans.
At Planet Wissen, journalist Sabine Brandi and Taz’s German-Irish foreign correspondent, Ralf Sotscheck, talk about Ireland in times of Brexit. They also refute many Irish clichés and reveal the reasons for their “love for Ireland at first sight”.
