Thiruvananthapuram∙ The bank manager confessed that he stole 215 Pawan’s worth of jewelery from the bank’s strong room and sold it to settle the liability incurred through online investment fraud. The police said that the manager of CSB Bank, H. Ramesh, who was arrested, disclosed the loss of Rs 51 lakh.
In order to get Rs 4 crore through cryptocurrency investment, he first created fake accounts in the name of his wife and relatives and embezzled Rs 51 lakh. The money was taken without giving the gold ornaments as collateral. The information and photos of the existing loan accounts of the customers were used for this purpose.
After documenting the pledge, he transferred the entire amount to his own account and invested in cryptocurrency. Transactions were through Telegram. After losing all this money, the loan could not be repaid. 1727 grams were taken from the strong room to avoid being caught in the audit.
Out of this, 300 grams were pledged and another 10 lakhs was taken as a loan. The rest of the gold was melted down and turned into money. 57 Pawan was bought with the money and re-mortgaged and took a loan. The rest was sold.

Ramesh’s statement is that he made the crypto investment believing that it was a company in Mumbai and many people in the Telegram group believed it after seeing the messages sent showing that the money was doubled. Screenshots were also provided showing the doubling of money in Ramesh’s virtual account for credibility. To get this amount into the account, the money was asked to be transferred to another account for tax purposes. Ramesh told the police that he will lose all the money he had paid till then

Police arrested one more person in the case of stealing and selling gold ornaments. Mannantala police arrested Ramakrishnan, a native of Nedumangad, who helped melt the jewellery. He is a friend of M. Kishore, a native of Nedumangad, who is the third accused in the case. The police said that it was Kishore who called Ramakrishnan and handed over the jewellery. The first accused is H. Ramesh, a native of Cherthala, a bank manager. B. Varghese, owner of Perurkada RKV Consultancy, is also the second defendant.
Ramesh reaches Kishore with the help of Varghese. Ramesh paid a commission of Rs 50 per gram to both of them for the gold sold. The police got footage from the bank’s surveillance camera of the accused gathering at the bank the day before the jewelery was taken from the strong room. The police found that Varghese was a regular visitor to the bank and had given loans to many people through him.
2 lakh rupees were recovered in the raid conducted by the police at Ramesh’s house yesterday. Mannantala SHO Baiju said that they are checking whether anyone else is involved in the case.
