Only 37% of Mexicans feel safe when using online financial platforms, according to a Kaspersky report.
The cybersecurity firm conducted a survey among users of mobile devices and digital banking in nine Latin American countries: Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
The ranking is headed by Chile (40%), followed by Peru, Colombia and Panama (with 39%), Guatemala (38%), Mexico, Costa Rica (35%), Brazil (25%) and Argentina (22%). . In general, only 35% of Latin Americans surveyed feel safe using online financial platforms
In addition, the firm indicates that Mexico and Guatemala are the countries that have suffered the most losses from online scams.
However, there is a significant increase in digital wallet users in the region, according to the company.
Kaspersky explained that during the Covid pandemic many institutions moved their services to virtuality by digitizing systems and processes, and by growing online payments, and despite the feeling of insecurity, 89% of those interviewed value the convenience of wallets digital due to the ease of carrying out procedures.
This explains that more and more people are using these wallets: in Central America alone, Costa Rica registers an increase of 96%, Panama of 90% and Guatemala of 86%.
On the other hand, 56% of those interviewed indicate that they use online payments for the ease of navigation and management of financial information and, specifically, this is stated by 62% in Panama and Guatemala and 56% in Costa Rica .
When using digital financial platforms, experts ask to be cautious and take measures to avoid exposing yourself to cyber threats such as those spread by SMS, email or WhatsApp messages.
