Emmy Awards 75th celebration hits record low viewership despite critical acclaim

The number of followers of the live broadcast, last Monday, to celebrate the distribution of the “Emmy” Awards, the television equivalent of the “Oscars” cinema awards, reached its lowest level ever, despite critics’ praise of it for honoring the most important series that made the history of the small screen.

The number of viewers for the 75th celebration – which was postponed for four months due to the two Hollywood strikes – was limited to 4.3 million, according to preliminary statistics published by the Fox channel, which broadcast it. The number constitutes a new record low for the event, which is witnessing an increasing decline in interest in the United States. Followers of last year’s celebration did not exceed 5.9 million, a number even lower than that recorded in the 2020 edition, which was held without stars due to quarantine, and was called PandEmmys, a combination of the word Pandemic (meaning pandemic) and the name of the awards (Emmys). However, the Oscars and Golden Globes witnessed a slight recovery in viewing numbers in the post-pandemic phase, unlike the Emmys.
