There are five people were hit and killed by a tractor with a trailer on Interstate 81 in snow-covered northeast Pennsylvania. People wereand got out of their cars after another crash, state police said, as cited by the Associated Press.
Around 5:30 p.m., a minivan lost control and crashed into a guardrail on the interstate in Lackawanna County. Four people got out of the minivan, as well as a person who followed them in another car, the police said. They all have been hit by a passing tractor trailer.
The medical examiner, fire officials and state police arrived at the scene. District Coroner Timothy Rowland told WNIP that all five people are from New York state.
So far, the authorities have not released any further information about the incident.
The National Weather Service warned of dangerous road conditions in low temperaturesand the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation advised drivers to use caution.
Janet Pohoda, a truck driver traveling in the same direction hours later, said the roads were slick from the snow, WNIP TV reported.
