The revolving doors of Sloterdijk station have been closed for months. This will remain the case in the coming months, because the doors are so badly damaged that they need to be completely replaced. Some travelers find it incomprehensible.
According to several travelers, the revolving doors have been closed for almost a year. Others say that one of the two revolving doors has recently been closed. When asked, a spokesperson for the NS said that it would at least take “a number of months.” The cause of the problem is unclear.
The station is still accessible, but via the entrance between the two revolving doors and the emergency exit on the right. Although some travelers think this is an excellent solution, not everyone thinks so. For example, during busy times there is sometimes a crowd at the smaller doors and they fear problems in the event of an emergency.
“An emergency solution is not a solution,” says one traveler. “It should be an emergency exit. If that emergency exit is full when there is an emergency, then you have a problem.” Another: “This doesn’t deserve a beauty prize. Should I be proud of this? No, right?”
Decent delivery time
A spokesperson for NS says that there is a ‘considerable delivery time’ for the new revolving doors. The NS will make the situation clearer by hanging signs. There are still ribbons hanging at the closed revolving doors, but it should look neater later. The spokesperson also denies that the closed revolving doors can cause dangerous situations, the station would still meet the fire safety requirements.
A plasterer from Poland, who regularly works in the Netherlands, thinks it will take a long time. “If the NS pays me, I will fix it. 5,000 euros and then it’s done. They have to call me,” he jokes.
