The group “Credo” will receive the “Golden Microphone” for its lifetime contribution to the development of Latvian music.
The jury’s vote for the “Album of the Year” nomination will still take place.
This year, a total of 478 applications were submitted for evaluation of “Golden Microphone’24” – 163 (last year 156) albums, 134 (last year 111) songs, 120 (last year 111) video clips, 46 (last year 45) debutantes and 15 (last year 7) concert recordings in video format. “Zelta mikrofons’24” consists of 21 nominations: it consists of a genre division of albums into separate categories, including song of the year, video clip, debut, radio hit, the most streamed record with “Elektrum” and “Elvi’s song of the year” and others. It has already been reported that this year the group “Credo” will receive the award for lifetime contribution to the development of Latvian music. On the other hand, the “Album of the Year” nomination will be determined by the jury’s vote after hearing all the nominees.
Traditionally, the “Radio hits” award is presented by the Association of Latvian Performers and Producers (LaIPA), which collects the most popular songs on radio stations. The executive director of LaIPA, Liena Edvardsa, points out that when evaluating the most played songs, Latvian radio stations are taken into account, which play music created in Latvia, and the most played songs are multiplied by the radio stations’ ratings according to the frequency of their playing. “The nomination of “Radio hit” compiled by LaIPA in “Zelta Mikrofon” is always especially welcome,” says Liena Edwards, “because it directly reflects the “demand” of society – the radio station always chooses to play those songs that are relevant to radio listeners,” emphasizes the executive director of LaIPA. The entries recorded, registered and played in the period from December 2, 2022 to December 1, 2023 are eligible for the “Radio hit” award.
On the other hand, the nomination of the listeners’ favorite last year’s song “Elvi’s song of the year” will be determined in the popular vote. The vote is promised to be announced soon.
The “Zelta mikrofons’24” ceremony will take place on March 8 at the event and conference center “Atta Center” (Krasta iela 60). The event will be hosted by Sanda Dejus and Mārtiņš Spuris, and the audience can also visit it in person. As the first announced participation of the band “Singapore Satin” at the ceremony concert, the full program will be announced over time.
The live broadcast of the event on TV3 will start on March 8 at 9:15 p.m. and it will also be available on “TV3 Play”, tv3.lv and “Go3”.
