iPhone Dominates Global Smartphone Market with 80.5 Million Units Shipped, IDC Report Shows

The International Data Corporation (IDC) report shows the volume of shipments smartphone global market in the fourth quarter of 2023 reached 326.1 million units, up 8.5% compared to the fourth quarter of 2022 (year-on-year/yoy).

According to IDC, shipping growth smartphone global growth in the last quarter was higher than the forecast growth of 7.3%.

iPhone becomes smartphone global bestseller throughout the fourth quarter of 2023, with shipment volume of 80.5 million units, up 11.6% (yoy). Apple products control 24% of the shipping market smartphone globally in the last quarter of last year.

Meanwhile, the volume of smartphone shipments from other brands also grew 3.5% (yoy) to 99.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2023.

IDC Worldwide Tracker team research director Nabila Popal said Apple’s continued success and resilience was largely due to the increasing trend for premium devices, which now represent more than 20% of the market.

“This is also driven by aggressive trade-in offers and interest-free financing plans,” said Nabila in a press release, Monday (15/1/2024).
