The Green Alliance is taking part in the Bern municipal council elections with Ursina Anderegg. The 43-year-old city councilor was nominated at the general meeting in Bern on Tuesday evening.
Anderegg is supposed to defend the seat for the party that was previously held by Franziska Teuscher. This will no longer take place in November.
Ursina Anderegg has been co-president of the party since 2018. She grew up in the canton of Aargau and works as a research assistant in the Equal Opportunities Department at the University of Bern. She has been a member of the city council since 2016.
The Green Alliance (GB) was founded in 1987. The first GB local councilor from 1993 was Therese Frösch, followed by Regula Rytz and Franziska Teuscher.
Contested seats
The Bern elections will take place on November 27th. The SP has two seats in the five-member city government. The Green Alliance, the Green Free List and the Center each hold one seat.
Marieke Kruit is running again for the SP. Three other party members are seeking to run. The party leadership recommends the nomination of National Councilor Matthias Aebischer to the delegates. Mayor Alec von Graffenried is seeking re-election for the Green Free List.
The red-green camp wants to defend its four seats. The Red-Green-Center Alliance (RGM), which has been in power since 1992, is being challenged by a center-right alliance: the Green Liberals, FDP, SVP, Center and EVP have agreed on a common list. However, the last word has not yet been spoken, particularly with GLP.
Climate initiative is coming
In the election year, the Green Alliance wants to cause a stir with its own initiative. On Tuesday, the general meeting gave the green light to launch a climate justice initiative.
The focus is on the creation of a climate fund. This could, for example, be increased through higher corporate taxes, new fees or a profit skimming at Energie Wasser Bern (ewb).
