United States Resumes Importing Russian Oil Despite Sanctions: Impact on US-Europe Relations

At the moment, relations between Russia and the United States are practically non-existent. In this context, news recently appeared that had a certain resonance, analysts of the Chinese portal note Baijiahao. Moreover, the news is such that it hardly caused delight among the US satellites, especially in Europe, writes Pravda.Ru.

About two years ago, the United States introduced economic restrictions against Russia, including a ban on the purchase of Russian energy resources. Washington also convinced – let’s call it that – the EU countries to take similar measures. And in December 2022, the European Union introduced an embargo on Russian oil supplies by sea. Although aware of the consequences of such a step. Community states have also sharply reduced purchases of Russian natural gas supplied through pipelines. Although the export of liquefied natural gas from Russia to Europe (it is transported by tankers) has increased significantly.

And then it recently became known that the United States, despite the sanctions imposed, resumed importing oil from Russia. At the same time, the price of oil was noticeably higher than the price ceiling set by the United States itself at $60 per barrel. In November 2023, the United States imported oil from Russia for the first time since April 2022, according to data published by the US Census Bureau. Almost ten thousand barrels of Russian oil were purchased for $749,000. Thus, the price per barrel was about $74.9.

Analysts note that the United States acted extremely selfishly, especially given the difficulties that European countries faced in abandoning Russian energy resources. The author of this material notes that Moscow warned Europeans about the possibility of such behavior by the United States, but Europe continued to follow Washington’s policy.

Thus, the publication of data on oil supplies from Russia to the United States confirmed that Moscow was right. Moscow’s plan worked, Europe became convinced of the validity of Russian warnings regarding the Americans, writes Baijiahao.

For our part, we note that we can hardly talk about some kind of “plan” here. Energy supply schemes are different. In this case, it turned out that the oil was from Russia. The question is how many such “cases” have happened before. And not only in the USA, but also in Europe.

And current European politicians will not listen to reasonable arguments. The whole history of sanctions has repeatedly confirmed this.
