Jakarta –
The Department of Trade and Industry Region 12 of the Philippines announced that three Toyota cars, namely the Avanza, Veloz and Raize, were being recalled. What is the problem?
In an announcement uploaded by the Department of Trade and Industry Region 12 of the Philippines on its social media account, the three Toyota cars had to have their braking systems repaired. The slide pin boot component on the brake caliper needs to be replaced in this recall campaign.
“Due to an assembly error on the brake caliper assembly line, the assembly tool interferes with the slide pin boots during assembly, causing damage to the boots. If water gets into the slide pin boots and causes rust, this can cause premature wear of the brake pads.” as quoted from an upload by the Department of Trade and Industry Region 12 of the Philippines, Tuesday (16/1/2024).
Toyota will replace the front disc brake cylinder slide. If necessary, the brake cylinder mounting will also be replaced. This replacement is free.
A total of 10,975 Toyota cars were affected by this recall. Here are the details:
- Raize production period 12 September-7 December 2022: 4,345 units
- Avanza production period 12 September-11 December 2022: 3,119 units
- Veloz production period 12 September-13 December 2022: 3,511 units.
Apart from that, Toyota also recalled the Avanza and Veloz models due to problems with the side impact beam. Because, a welding error was found on the side impact beam.
“Due to improper welding conditions on the side impact beam inside the right front door, there is a possibility that the welding strength is insufficient in the event of a side impact, and in the worst case, its performance may not be as planned, which may cause excessive injury to the vehicle occupants, ” he wrote.
In this case, Toyota will install a reinforcing bracket and additional welding will be added at the damaged weld point on the side impact beam. Once again, this recall program is free and there is no charge.
The units affected by the side impact beam recall are the Avanza for the production period 3 November-24 November 2022 with 1,285 units and the Veloz for the production period 3 November-24 November 2022 with 1,471 units.
“We kindly request affected customers to visit and take your vehicle to the nearest Toyota Customer Service for necessary replacement and servicing of your unit,” wrote DTI Region 12 Philippines.
