The German car manufacturer Volkswagen is preparing to come up with a sporty version of the ID.3, the ID.3 GTX, created with the aim of offering an electric alternative to the Golf GTI model. The electric hot-hatch will arrive with significantly reworked powertrains to deliver more power and torque than the regular ID.3, with minor design tweaks expected to differentiate this model from the rest of the ID.3 family.
The automaker has already conducted prototype tests at low temperatures and it is understood that the sporty version of the ID.3 will not be equipped with all-wheel drive like other GTX models, that is, the car will use rear-wheel drive. Although there was originally a plan for an all-wheel drive ID.3, the new VW management has other ideas – adapting this particular version of the MEB platform to two electric motors is too complicated and expensive. For these reasons, the head of the VW brand denies that there are any plans for an all-wheel drive ID.3.
For now, there is little technical data, but it is clear that in this car VW plans to use the new type of electric motors that have already been introduced with the ID.7 production. It has improvements in cooling as well as other aspects including efficiency. This version is also predicted to receive different chassis and suspension tuning for sportier handling and on-road dynamics. At the moment, it is not known exactly when this sporty ID.3 version will reach customers.
