Groundbreaking Campaign Materials and Research on Dementia in People with Intellectual Disabilities

Subproject 1 Kansplus developed campaign materials, such as posters, videos and social media resources, to raise awareness about dementia in people with intellectual disabilities.

Subproject 2 Chance plus focused on sharing knowledge and experiences with loved ones. This included an online conference and the opening of digital dementia rooms.

Subproject 3 Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, in collaboration with UMC Groningen and the University of Groningen, focused on mapping the Dutch situation. Applied scientific research has provided greater insight into, among other things, the prevalence of dementia in people with an intellectual disability. The results have been detailed in the fact sheet ‘Basics in order’

Subproject 4 Philadelphia dealt with the right to good and careful diagnosis in dementia. Current diagnostic knowledge and practical experiences from the Network of Behavioral Experts for the Elderly were used to develop a new diagnostic guide, with input from various sectors, such as general practitioners and medical specialists. This has resulted in a new guideline.

Subproject 5 Vilans worked on practical products to improve the recognition of dementia. Examples of this are the signaling ladder dementia and DisDAT. These products were developed through pilots together with a number of organizations in disability care.

Subproject 6 Stichting Zet aimed to generate more attention for people with intellectual disabilities and early dementia in a multidisciplinary local network in the North Brabant region. This included agenda setting, awareness and knowledge sharing with local networks and practice partners, with the results made accessible via Webinars.
