The Trends Research and Consulting Center stressed the importance of achieving peace in the Middle East, because of its significant positive economic effects in the region.
This came in a speech by Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of the Center, during his participation in the annual meeting of the Greek House Davos Foundation 2024, which is being held as part of the activities accompanying the World Economic Forum “Davos”, whose activities began in Switzerland, and lasts for five days.
He said, in a panel discussion entitled “Peace Economies in the Middle East…a model of best practices for education on the culture of peace and the sustainable development goals,” that achieving peace in the Middle East will lead to increasing trade and investment between countries in the region, providing new job opportunities, and attracting Foreign direct investment, promoting innovation and economic growth.
He pointed to the role of think tanks and scientific research in promoting a culture of peace and sustainability, and to the Trends Center’s research and knowledge efforts that contribute to enhancing cooperation and spreading a culture of dialogue, understanding the other, and peaceful coexistence to ensure peace and stability.
An elite group of thinkers and pioneers in politics, religion and education participated in the discussion, where they touched on the importance of promoting a culture of peace in the region as an engine for economic and social development, stressing the need to integrate the principles of sustainable peace and the goals of sustainable development into education curricula at all levels, and stressed the vital role of religious institutions in Consolidating the values of tolerance and understanding between religions and cultures.
They stressed that stability and security provide fertile ground for economic growth, while conflicts lead to a decline in development rates and an increase in poverty. The need to include the concepts of peace, human rights, and sustainable development goals in educational curricula, enhance critical thinking skills, and promote dialogue and understanding between different religions and cultures in the region, is an effective weapon to combat intolerance and hatred, stressing the role of think tanks, scientific research, and society in spreading the culture of peace and enhancing community participation in Resolving issues and disputes.
