New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Sunday warned residents to stay home as freezing temperatures hit much of the United States.
The weather has impacted many events, such as NFL playoff game of the Buffalo Bills against the Pittsburgh Steelers at snow-filled Highmark Stadium.
Due to 30 mph winds and snow falling at 2 inches per hour on Sunday, the game was delayed until Monday afternoon.
There was also imposed a travel ban due to a dangerous storm that began Saturday and was expected to last until Sunday night.
Feeling of -21
The National Meteorological Service’s forecast for this Monday predicted a probability of snow showers in the morning and a maximum of -7 degrees Celsius, but with strong winds that with a thermal sensation of -21.
Hochul said he believed the frigid temperatures could be a good omen.
“Monday is the 30th anniversary of what was the coldest football game ever played in Buffalo Bills history here in Western New York. It was zero and the thermal sensation reached -32 degrees. So if you start to feel cold, think about the people who were there 30 years ago and it was much colder. And remember, that resulted in a victory that took us to the Super Bowl. So there’s good karma playing out in the bitter cold here in Buffalo. And that’s what we’re hoping for tomorrow,” he said.
