It’s done – and HSV closed an important construction site shortly before the start of the second half of the season. For weeks, the club haggled with Bakery Jatta to extend his contract, which expired in the summer, and the Gambian’s departure after this season was on the cards. Now the decision has been made – in favor of HSV: Jatta foregoes a lot of money that he could have made elsewhere, but instead extended his stay at Volkspark for a whopping five years. A pension contract for the 25-year-old, whose love for Hamburg and HSV made the difference.
Jonas Boldt used the big stage to let the cat out of the bag. At 2:17 p.m., the HSV sports director announced what the almost 600 people present in the CCH wanted to hear at the general meeting on Sunday and received by far the strongest applause of the day.
“He stands for HSV and the club’s identity like probably no other,” Boldt told the members. “I am pleased that Bakery appreciates this support from you on its journey and has committed itself to HSV for the long term.”
Jatta’s decision came in Sotogrande: contract until 2029
The ovation afterwards spoke volumes and probably only strengthened Jatta, who like his professional colleagues was not present at the meeting, in his decision. He stays because his heart wanted it that way. “HSV is my life and Hamburg is now my home,” explained the attacker in a statement on the club’s homepage. “When I came here, the people in and around the club welcomed me, gave me a home and always supported me. I’m very grateful for that and want to give them something back in every game.”
He will continue to have the opportunity to do so. And plenty of it. Jatta’s contract, which runs until 2029, is the longest in the professional squad. The decision was made in Sotogrande in the last few days. As part of the training camp, Boldt is said to have had another in-depth conversation with Jatta and persuaded him to stay.
Salary increases to 600,000 euros, in Saudi Arabia it would have been much more
The competition was fierce. Three Bundesliga clubs (including Augsburg) competed for Jatta, and one club from Saudi Arabia in particular offered a multiple of HSV. According to MOPO information, the winger could have signed a three-year contract in the desert that would have guaranteed him an annual salary of 1.8 million euros. 5.4 million for three years – a dizzying offer.
Bakery Jatta has signed with HSV until 2029. WITTERS
Bakery Jatta has signed with HSV until 2029.
But Jatta decided on HSV. Also because the HSV bosses ended up adding another year to the contract as part of the poker. The Gambian’s salary increases from around 350,000 euros to around 600,000 euros and would increase even further if promoted.

“I am proud of the boy and admire him,” said Jatta’s advisor Efe Aktas. “Baka listened to his heart and gave up a lot of money. In the end, the emotional bond with the HSV fans and Jonas Boldt was crucial. He really wanted to stay at HSV. That shows what kind of character he has.”
