Lily Gladstone made history as the first Indigenous person to receive the award for best actress in a motion picture, drama at the 2024 Golden Globes last weekend for her work in Martin Scorsese’s daring western epic. Flower Moon Killers (which you can now stream with an Apple TV+ subscription). But it was not only this monumental and well-deserved victory that made his mother shine on Sunday evening.
During a January 11 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Montana-born actress opened up about attending the Hollywood star-studded ceremony for the first time with her mother Betty as her date, with the latter naturally smitten by one of the Globes’ most famous attendees : the idol Timothée Chalamet.
Gladstone said his mother “blushed” just by being near the dashing one. Dune leading man, telling Fallon:
The one she was blushing about, though, she said, “Timothée Chalamet keeps looking at me and smiling!” »
Considering the very famous company that Lily and Betty kept that evening, including Gladstone’s, KOTFM co-star and Titanic icon Leonardo DiCaprio, it’s only natural for mom to be a little shaken by such celebrity encounters. Gladstone also recounted how his mother met the legendary Meryl Streep, who reportedly thanked Betty for being “the parent of an artist.” You can check out the clip below:
Aside from the fact that Betty is reasonably flustered under Chalamet’s swooning gaze, however, Gladstone need not worry about untoward “naughty” behavior, as the Wonka The actor spent most of the ceremony kissing his girlfriend Kylie Jenner. Lily said her mother did “remarkably well” among the stars at Sunday night’s event, despite some pre-show hassles:
She was a little nervous at first but by the end she was really feeling it. She asked if she could keep her Valentino, which we’ll see.
As for her own experience, the performer jokingly compared her first time sailing to the Golden Globes to Squid game, the very stressful South Korean hit series on Netflix.
It was wild. You grow up watching these things and you see how the sausage is made and it’s kind of, you know, it’s a production. When the commercial breaks come on, you know, everyone is rushing to the bathroom and back… and it was a little fierce, it was a little like “Squid Game.” If you were out of your chair when the cameras were rolling, you were stuck there.
Gladstone offered a sweet thank you to her mother during her acceptance speech, praising the parent for championing her daughter’s Blackfoot and Nimiipuu heritage growing up, despite not being Indigenous herself.
I am here with my mother who, although not Blackfoot, has worked tirelessly to introduce our language into our classroom. So I grew up speaking a Blackfoot language.
Lily dedicated the historic victory to her mother as well as her “beautiful sisters,” telling them she “stood all over the land.” [their] shoulders. »
We’ll see more of the actress and hopefully her sweet mom Betty as the awards circuit continues, with Gladstone once again in the running for Best Actress at this Sunday’s Critics Choice Awards. And for Betty’s sake, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that there will be more meetings with Mr. Chalamet in the future!
