AHAB “Funeral Doom Metal” Band to Perform in Riga – March 30 Show – Baltic States’ Only Concert

Reviving after a seven-year break with a new studio album “The Coral Tombs” released a year ago, the German heavy music group AHAB will visit Vagonu Zāle in Riga on March 30. It will be the band’s only concert in the Baltic States.

AHAB is a German “funeral doom metal” band that was formed in 2004 and is known for creating a unique genre – the musical interpretation of various sea stories. “Fans of Captain Nemo’s adventures will definitely like this – a musical soundtrack in the depths of the ocean and also human nature. Slow, heavy, scary, meditative, balanced interesting and melodic at the same time,” is how the concert organizers describe this group.

The group was originally formed as a duo (vocalist/guitarist Daniel Droste and guitarist Christian Hektor) for exactly this purpose – to musically interpret the stories of different eras about the sea, oceans and depths. It turned out that music lovers liked it – AHAB was the first band of the “funeral doom metal” genre to enter the German music album charts. The albums interpret such novels as “Moby Dick” by Herman Melville, the story of the whale ship “Essex” by Owen Chase, the works of Edgar Allan Poe and William Hope Hodgson, etc.

Currently, the group has already five studio albums, and the last one was listed very high – “The Coral Tombs” won the title of “Album of the Year” on the prestigious German music portal Metal.de, while “doom/sludge” was No. 1 in the poll of “Metal Hammer” magazine. in the top of the genre (it must be admitted that stylistically ABAB “doom” is much, much closer than “sludge”). AHAB performed at the prestigious festivals “Hellfest”, “Wacken”, “Brutal Assault”, “Inferno”, “Roadburn”, “Damnation” and many others. The band still includes the two founders, whose company on stage has been formed by bassist Stefans Vandernots and drummer Cornelius Althammers for years.

The warm-up acts of the Riga concert will also be noteworthy – the fierce and gloomy Poles “Death Has Spoken” and the leaders of domestic “doom metal” “Frailty”.
