Campeche Ministry of Health Reports Successful Anti-Rabies Vaccination Campaign in 2023

CAMPECHE. – At the end of 2023, the Ministry of Health applied a total of 116,220 doses of anti-rabies vaccine throughout the state, in actions carried out through the Vectors staff of the three health jurisdictions that cover the 13 municipalities to promote the culture of the owner responsible and keep Campeche free of this disease.

In the municipalities of Calkiní, Campeche, Hecelchakán, Champotón Dzitbalché, Hopelchén, Seybaplaya and Tenabo, belonging to Jurisdiction No. 1, 59,037 dogs and cats were vaccinated, while in Calakmul, Candelaria and Escárcega, which covers the Health Jurisdiction No. 2, a total of 32,235 doses applied were registered, as well as in Carmen and Palizada in charge of Jurisdiction No 3, progress was made with 24,948 vaccinated pets.

Regarding coverage, the state head of the Zoonosis Program, Antonio Contreras Domínguez, pointed out that fixed, semi-fixed posts and mobile units were installed, in addition there was support from city councils, Sedena, Navy, Universities, NGOs, and volunteers to strengthen actions during 2023.

He highlighted that in 2024, all dogs and cats from one month of age will continue to be vaccinated in Vector offices and health jurisdictions so that they do not get sick with rabies, preventing its transmission to people.
