Dramatic Police Chase and Arrest Ends in Thun: Stolen Car Collides and Fleeing Suspects Caught

On Saturday shortly after 2:40 a.m., a patrol from the Bern cantonal police wanted to stop a car that they had previously noticed at the Interlaken West train station for a check.

The vehicle then fled via the A8 motorway in the direction of Spiez, the Bern cantonal police said on Saturday evening. The patrol gave chase and requested reinforcements.

In Faulensee the car left the A8 and continued towards Spiez. It collided with a construction site barrier.

Despite the collision, the car continues to drive

After colliding with the barrier, the car fled further along the main road in the direction of Gwatt. At the height of the Rösslimatte, the police tried to grab the vehicle again – without success.

The journey ended in Thun: the fleeing vehicle was finally stopped in the Hohmad district, according to the Bern cantonal police. The patrol car hit the escapees’ car. However, no one was injured.

The driver was able to be stopped while still in the car, the police report. The passenger fled on foot, but was caught in the same area.

The Bern cantonal police temporarily arrested both the 19-year-old driver and the 16-year-old passenger. During the escape drive, they were accused of various speeding violations and other traffic violations. The getaway car was also stolen, according to the cantonal police. Further investigations are underway.
