National Road Transport Agency Accidentally Issued Illegal License Plates with Political Abbreviation BBB

Jan 13, 2024 at 11:47 AM Update: an hour ago

The National Road Transport Agency accidentally gave forty new commercial vehicles illegal license plates. The plates have the letter combination BBB, but abbreviations of political parties are not permitted when assigning license plates.

A spokesperson for the RDW confirmed this after reporting by it AD. The letter combination BBB is the abbreviation of the political party BoerBurgerBeweging. Other political abbreviations such as SGP and VVD are also normally not found on license plates.

It is not clear how the error could have happened. The error stood out because the RDW switched to a new letter combination for commercial vehicles this month. The license plates start with the letter V, followed by two numbers and three letters.

The RDW has now stopped issuing registration certificates for light commercial vehicles with the letter B and has switched to the combination starting with the D.

“It was not the intention that the BBB combination would be used, that was a mistake. In order to stop using this combination, we immediately switched to the D, because this was technically the simplest and therefore the fastest,” the organization said. .

Vehicle owners with objections to BBB can apply for a new registration certificate free of charge, the RDW promises.
