Galician visual creator Pilar Boullosa’s ‘A the drift’ exhibition at Agáldar Museum reflects on human species and Nature

The Plastic Arts circuit ‘Itineraria’ promoted by the Culture Department of the Gran Canaria Cabildo through its Plastic Arts Center, opens on January 16 at the Agáldar Museum, the individual exhibition of the Galician visual creator Pilar Boullosa, ‘A the drift’.

This exhibition will be open until next February 9, in whose organization the Gáldar town council has collaborated, which can be enjoyed with free admission from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., as well as on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Boullosa’s current plastic work revolves around Nature, defining it as the harmony of all living beings and inert matter. In this exhibition he uses his microplastics to create his works as raw material for his artistic proposal along with other pieces of the same material, but larger in size. For this reason, most of his works are made with plastic found on the beach of Bocabarranco, located in the north of Gran Canaria. “On the one hand, I feel the social obligation to collaborate in beach cleanups and, on the other hand, I want to give a second life to this collected material (which cannot be recycled) through art,” explains the artist.

“My focus is on the human species and its relationship with it, a connection marked by social impact, in which the demand for resources of human beings perpetuates a constant transformation on the Earth, corrupting its vital balance and leading to the same towards an uncertain destiny. “I seek to represent the successes and failures of humanity as a collective and species, determined by its level of social and ecological responsibility within the context of globalization,” says the creator.

“From my experience I understand the creative process as a mental procedure closely linked to my daily life. As a visual artist, I understand art as a tool for raising awareness and, in turn, artistic practice helps me relate to and better understand the environment I inhabit on an ecological and ethnological level,” she adds.
