The 54th annual meeting in Davos will be attended by approximately 2,800 participants, including more than 60 heads of state and government.
The war between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas and the war in Ukraine are expected to be the focus of the forum.
The event will also be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang and Middle East leaders, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who participated in the forum remotely in previous years.
On Sunday, a day before the start of the forum, a meeting dedicated to Ukraine is planned, where security experts and high-ranking officials from about 70 countries will gather. It will be the fourth meeting on Zelensky’s proposed “peace formula” for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian government wants to use these discussions to gain support for its peace plan, which provides for the withdrawal of all Russian forces from the occupied territories of Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula, as well as guarantees for Ukraine’s future security. It is also expected that Russian leaders will have to take responsibility for their role in the invasion. Russia has rejected the plan and was not invited to previous meetings.
The president of the forum, Berge Brende, pointed out that this time the event “takes place against the most complicated geopolitical and geoeconomic background in recent decades.”
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Hassauna will also participate in the forum.
“We know that the war in Gaza is still ongoing and there are fears of further escalation,” Brende said. “At Davos, we will bring together the key stakeholders and look at how to avoid further deterioration of the situation and discuss what will happen next,” he added.
Since the beginning of the war between Israel and “Hamas” on October 7, concerns about the emergence of a wider conflict in the region have grown.
