National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is observed on January 11 to draw attention to this problem that affects millions of children, women and men around the world.
The blue campaign (Wear Blue Day) represents the fight to end human trafficking. Since 2010, the United States has dedicated the month of January to raising awareness about this scourge that affects millions of people.
Human trafficking is a crime that exploits women, children and men into submission. The International Labor Organization estimates that almost 27 million people in the world are victims of forced labor.
What is human trafficking
Human trafficking usually takes two forms:
- Sex trafficking is a commercial sexual act which is induced by force, fraud or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform said act has not reached the age of 18.
- The other modality is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision or obtaining of a person for labor or services through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of subjecting to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage or slavery.
Human trafficking is different from human trafficking. According to him United Nations Palermo Protocol Human trafficking involves exploitation, while smuggling means facilitating the illegal entry of people into a country and charging money for it, in most cases higher sums than if the immigrant followed the legal process.
