West Bank –
Military Israel admitted that one of their vehicles had “accidentally” run over the body of a militant Palestine when gunfire took place in the area West Bank earlier this week.
As reported Reuters and Al ArabiyaThursday (11/1/2024), a number of Palestinian officials accused Israel of committing a “brutal crime” after video footage circulating on social media showed a military vehicle running over the body of a dead militant in the city of Tulkarem on Monday (8/1) night.
The Israeli military, in its statement, said its troops at the time were assisting police in a counter-terrorism operation that led to gunfire and the deaths of three “terrorists”.
“The operational vehicle seen in the video was deployed to pick up troops caught in heavy fire, and accidentally passed over the bodies of terrorists,” the Israeli military said in a statement to AFP.
In its statement, the Israeli military also said it would review what happened. The Israeli military added that the video in circulation “does not show the full extent of the incident”.
Violence in the West Bank has soared to unprecedented levels in the past two decades, since war raged between Israel and Hamas Of Gaza Strip in early October last year.
Video footage showing the incident on Monday (8/1) local time appears to be taken from a security camera and shows an armored vehicle slowly driving over a body.
The vehicle then stopped, before driving again and running over the body with its rear wheels.
