Much of the United States is experiencing severe winter weather. Due to a combination of storms and heavy rain, more than 800,000 households in the Northeast are without power. In the south, tornadoes cause fatalities.
The east coast of the US has been experiencing extreme rainfall and a severe storm since Tuesday. Up to 7 centimeters of rain could fall in some places. Snow falls at the edges of the storm. Up to 20 centimeters of snow can fall there.
The combination of storm and snow or rain causes electricity cables to become damaged and power outages. New York and Pennsylvania have been hit hardest by power outages. In both states, almost 200,000 households are without power.
Flood warnings have also been issued in many northeastern states. It snowed heavily there last weekend and the precipitation from this storm is added.
The storm claimed three lives in Alabama, North Carolina and Georgia. Several tornadoes have also been observed in these southern states. The New York Times reports that at least ten tornadoes have been reported. In Florida, among other places, the wind has blown roofs off houses and buildings.
