The President referred the Constitutional Court to the changes in the basic law.
“There is reason in Radev’s motives, but the president is not the audience, in view of the matter he has chosen to challenge in the Constitutional Court. This is the way to turn the tragedy of the constitutional reform into a tragicomedy. The central theme is absent – the judiciary and especially what they did with the Supreme Judicial Council. They cut it into three bodies, this is completely unconstitutional, no matter where you look at it,” said constitutional law teacher Prof. Georgi Bliznashki in the Denyat ON AIR studio.
According to him, there is no such thing anywhere in Europe.
“The adviser to the president – Krum Zarkov, works closely with “Democratic Bulgaria”, they are very close to Hristo Ivanov, the same sly smile lights up their faces. They think they have outsmarted everyone. You even saw that the Union of Judges, which should be the main emblem of change, opposed the division of the SJC. If Rumen Radev was a real president, he would have started his objections precisely from the Supreme Judicial Council,” added Prof. Bliznashki on the air of Bulgaria ON AIR.
He is of the opinion that the head of state cannot be the guardian of the Constitution.
“The president cannot be a corrective to the government. All the time, Radev speaks as a possible leader of the opposition. This is not his job, by definition he must be an arbiter of the government and hence the guardian of the Constitution,” the professor of constitutional law is emphatic .
Prof. Bliznashki explained that dual citizenship for MPs and ministers is generally allowed only as an exception: “There is an international convention to avoid dual citizenship. Every country that accepts new citizens requires them to renounce their old citizenship , to get the new one. Dual citizenship is not acquired just like that”.
He believes that this is being done under someone else’s dictation.
“The changes for the official cabinet are completely “anti-Radev” because of the series of caretaker governments we observed, he liked it very much. He got his friends there. It would have been better if they had impeached Radev because he constantly violates the Constitution.” emphasized Prof. Georgi Bliznashki, adding that we are extremely behind in the legal sphere.
