KOMPAS.com – Samsung showcased the latest folding screen concept for cellphones at the annual Consumer Electronics Shot (CES) 2024 technology exhibition. The screen concept called Flex In and Flex Out Flip allows the screen to be folded back and forth, aka two-way.
This ability is unique because existing folding cellphones so far can only be folded in one direction. The Flex In and Flex Out Flip screen can be folded both inwards and outwards so it has a 360 degree rotation angle.
The Flex In and Flex Out Flip screen technology is seen being implemented by Samsung in a clamshell-shaped folding cellphone model, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip smartphone series.

“When folded out, the front and back of the device can be used as a screen, creating a new user experience,” reads the description blog official Samsung Display.
When folded, the crease marks are almost invisible because it is no gap (crease free). However, the folded part is deliberately asymmetrical in size.

The Flex In & Flex Out Flip concept designs the bottom screen with a shorter size. So that when folded outwards or inwards, the screen does not cover the rear camera and the front camera which is embedded in the punch hole in the top center of the screen.

The new screen concept shown by Samsung only consists of one main screen, unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 5 which is also equipped with a secondary screen on the back.

The folding screen concept designed is not divided into equal sizes. The bottom screen is made shorter so that when folded it does not cover the rear and front camera sensors
However, because it has a clamshell form factor, this Flex In & Flex Out concept screen cellphone is still able to offer a screen scrolling experience similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, as compiled by KompasTekno from CNET, Tuesday (9/1/2024).
When folded, the larger side of the screen can be used to access icons in the quick settings panel, control media playback, check time information, and view battery status.

On the same occasion, Samsung also showed a prototype of another folding screen called Flex Liple, where the display panel extends and curves at the top so that it wraps around the cellphone frame on that side.
The part of the screen that remains visible when the cellphone is folded can then be used to display various information such as notifications.

Another folding screen concept is called Flex Liple
Flex Liple is also said to be similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge which was released in 2015. The difference is, the Galaxy Note Edge at that time used screen curves on the left and right sides.
Of course, because it is still a concept, it is not clear when the two screen technologies above will start appearing in gadget products made by Samsung, if they will actually be implemented.
